Herbert C. Johnson, of Boynton Beach, FL, 87 years old, passed away on January 24, 2015, after a brief illness. “Mr. Herb”, as known to many, was a larger than life character to all who knew and loved him. He was a true gentleman and his kindness and generosity to all who knew him, touched countless lives over the years. Mr. Herb was born on April 1, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island. At the age of 17, he joined the Army and proudly served his country overseas in World War II, as part of the Greatest Generation. Upon his discharge he returned to Long Island, where he married Dorothy Kuntz, who preceded him in death in 1989. Dorothy encouraged Herb to attend college on the GI bill and he graduated from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana, with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1975, he moved to Florida and in 1977, he founded Johnson-Davis, Inc. of Lantana, FL, where he continued to work until the time of his death. He leaves to cherish his memories, his three children, Jeanne Cummins (John) of Louisville, KY, Scott Johnson (Robin) of Jupiter, FL, and Chris Johnson of Hypoluxo, FL, eight grandchildren, Molly Scott (Richard) of Washington, DC, Andrew (deceased), Nan Cummins of Denver, CO, Meredith Cryer (Clark) of Tequesta, FL, Ronald Cravens, II, (Sarah) of Jupiter, FL, Rob Cummins of Los Angeles, CA, Tyler Johnson, Hypoluxo, FL, Kelsey Johnson, Hypoluxo, FL; two great grandchildren, Henry and Lucy Scott of Washington, DC. Also surviving are his brother, Peter Johnson (Eileen) of Toms River, NJ and his special friend and companion, Jeanne Michener, of Boynton Beach, FL, along with several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family is scheduled on Thursday, January 29, 2015, from 5:00 to 6:30, followed by a memorial service at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy #1 & NE 15th Ave., Boynton Beach, FL. Mr. Johnson will be buried at the South Florida National Cemetery, with full Military Honors, alongside his wife, Dorothy. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Herb requested that donations be made to the Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship foundation, c/o NUCA of FL, 113 E. College Avenue, Tallahassee, FL 32301.
Mr. Herb – you are truly in “high cotton” now and your legacy of love and family will be in our hearts all the days of our lives.
