Helen Florence McGaffee passed away peacefully at her home in Boynton Beach, Florida on March 13, 2022, one day after her 88th birthday. Helen was born March 12, 1934, the second of six children to George Elmer McGaffee Sr. and Florence Ingram McGaffee. She graduated from Richlands High School in Richlands, Virginia in 1950 and regularly attended their class reunions which was one of her favorite regularly scheduled trips that she took annually. Upon moving to South Florida in 1980 she began an extensive career in banking, starting as a teller with Flagler Federal Savings and Loan rising to the title of Branch Manager, and retiring after 26 years with Wachovia in 2006 at the age of 72. Apart from her career and raising four children, Helen was an avid reader, easily completing two to three novels a week, and a master crossword solver, often using black ink to complete her puzzles. She loved her heritage and journeyed to Ireland in celebration of her 80th birthday where she saw the land of her ancestors, climbed castles and kissed the Blarney Stone. She also was a passionate animal lover, caring for several dogs and cats throughout her life that she loved dearly. Though she suffered numerous tragedies during her time on earth, such as the loss of her son Howard in 1997 and her daughter Charlotte in 2012, her faith in God never wavered and she was an active member of Gateway Community Church located in Boynton Beach, FL. She is also preceded in death by her parents, sister Thelma Ringstaff, and brother George E. McGaffee Jr. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Taylor Agati (Martin), daughter Bobbi Taylor, brother Terry McGaffee, sisters Shirley Barazzone and Debbie Hunsaker (Neal), grandchildren Amanda Taylor, Abigail Agati-Abbott (Michael), Kyle Taylor (Kelcie), Catherine Agati, and great-grandchildren Wyatt, Kylie and Charlotte as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank TrustBridge Hospice and the wonderful staff of Lynden Nursing Services who helped greatly in seeing her from this life to the next.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, 599 N.E. 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach, Florida on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM with a Memorial Service to be held at 1:00 PM.
