HAROLD JEAN MAURICE O’COIN
Harold passed away peacefully on Nov. 19th, at Vitas Hospice Center in Delray Bch, surrounded by his family, blessed in an outpouring of love. Harold was born to Leo and Eva O’Coin on May 23,1930 in Spencer, Massachusetts. He was the youngest of 10 children, who all predeceased him. Upon leaving high school, he began his service to our country in the US Navy. He was awarded several medals and citations for his honorable service. After returning to the States, he met, and then married, his wife of 57 years, Gloria “Pat” Dumas. They went on to have 4 children, Philip Michael, Laurie Ann, Susan Marie Annette, and Danielle Jean. Harold worked for Brookfield Shoe Company until 1971, as well as playing the drums and singing in a band at social events, weddings, etc… In 1971, Harold and his family left Massachusetts for a new life in Florida. He went on to work for Lake Worth High School, Lester’s Restaurant (now Riggins Crabhouse), and finally, the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in 1992. He was never one to sit still, so he eventually went to work part time at Seagate Towers as a doorman, where he enjoyed befriending a lot of the residents there. Harold had a variety of hobbies he enjoyed. He loved golfing, and in the last couple of years, was on a croquet league. He enjoyed the concert series every year at Palm Beach State College. He loved to dance, and was well known for his karaoke skills. His favorite songs to perform were those by Louis Armstrong, especially “What a Wonderful World”. He amazingly could sing and sound very much like the great Louis Armstrong when he wanted to. He was a member of a pool league with the American Legion for many years, and was very happy to tell you his team could beat any other team around. Just 2 weeks before he passed, he returned home one afternoon from playing pool, with a bag full of quarters from all of his won games. The old pool shark still had it!! Harold will be missed by many friends, young and old. But he will mostly be missed by his family, who he bragged about all of the time. He leaves 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He leaves behind a son, Philip (Susan) O’Coin, of Palm Bch Gardens ...children Mathew Goodwin (Nancy) and their children Justin and Jayden, as well as Rachael (Chris) Stephens, and their children John, Luke, and Jacob. His oldest daughter, Laurie (Richard) Peckham, of Palm Coast...her children Tracie (Eric) Geary, and their children Kinsley and Eric. And Laurie’s son, Corey Jenkins. His middle daughter Susan (Richard) Lancaster, of Palm Springs, as well as their children Rob and Lacie Lancaster. And his youngest daughter, Danielle Fredrickson, (Ken Tritsch), of Lantana, and her children, Kacey Woods (Joe Arnold), and their son Joseph “JoJo” Arnold. Austin Woods, and Kassidy Fredrickson. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Scobee Combs Bowden Funeral Home in Boynton Bch. There will be a private service on Monday for just the family because of Covid. After the pandemic settles down, there will be a public celebration of Harold’s life at the American Legion. Hopefully in the spring… In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Harold’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project or Forgotten Soldier Foundations.
