H. JOAN THOMAS
Age 87 of Boynton Beach passed away peacefully May 3, 2015. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, William (Bill) Thomas; 2 sons, Edward (Barbara) Thomas of Lake Forest, IL & Seattle, WA, William (Bill) Thomas, Ft. Myers, FL; 2 daughters, Patricia Baker and Deborah Thomas, both of Boynton Beach and 2 granddaughters, Kimberly Campbell & Lisa Thomas, both of Boynton Beach.
Joan was born in North Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Waukegan High School. She moved to Chicago where she worked for Esquire Magazine and met her husband to be, Bill. The family moved to Boynton Beach in 1975 and in 1976 started operating The Cellar Restaurant and later renamed it The Bill Thomas Supper Club. It was a family enterprise and Joan kept tabs of the revenue. Joan had a passion for golf and while a member of Medlane Country Club in Wadsworth, IL, she was 9 hole member champion 2 years. After moving to Florida, Joan was a member of the Monday Ladies League and Thursday Ladies League at Sherwood Country Club and Lake View Country Club. She enjoyed bowling and belonged to several leagues in Delray Beach & Boynton Beach. Joan was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife. She will be missed by her loving family and many friends.
Friends may call from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Ave., Boynton Beach. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 8, 2015 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, Delray Beach. Private Family Services will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery.
