Gustavo Villanueva Lopez, affectionately known as Gus or Sonny, passed away
peacefully at his home in Boynton Beach, Florida, on September 23, 2024, at the
age of 82. Born on August 3, 1942, in Manhattan, New York, he was the
beloved son of Gustavo A. and Celia (Villanueva) Lopez.

Gus spent his early years in Cuba before moving to Flushing, NY with his
parents. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Marianne
(Galasso), with whom he shared 57 years of unwavering love and marriage. They
built their life together in Franklin Square, NY where they raised their three
daughters. A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and graduate from St. John’s
University, Gus worked as a Customs House Broker, operating his own company
for many years before retiring to sunny Florida.

He lived his life as an example of how to love deeply, serve selflessly, and walk
humbly with God. Gus served as a Eucharistic Minister, Bereavement Minister,
Pre-Cana Leader, and religious education teacher. He was also dedicated to
fostering the spiritual development of adults at the St. Paul’s Cursillo.

Gus will be remembered by his devoted wife, Marianne; his loving daughters and
sons-in-law Nicole and Paul (Kinsella), Christine and Gregg (Berkowitz) and
Maria and Larry (Manning); his cherished grandchildren Matthew, Ryan, Layla,
Isabella, and Avery; his sister, Josephine (DiCalogero), her husband Bob and
their children Sarah and John. As well as his brothers/sisters-in law Tommie,
Rhea, Peter, Michele, Scott, Vicki, BJ, Talia, and nieces and nephews.

Whether he was casting a fishing line, hitting the golf course, or sipping a glass
of red wine with family or friends, he made sure to enjoy life’s simple pleasures
and blessings. His legacy of love, faith, and service will be cherished and missed
by all who knew him.

Family and Friends will be received on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM with a 2:00 PM Wake Service at SCOBEE-COMBS-BOWDEN FUNERAL HOME, 599 N.E. 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach, FL 33435.
