GRACE E. BERGENER
Grace E. Bergener, age 89, passed away at home on November 1, 2019. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 28, 1930 to George & Emma Wayman. She grew up in the Mt. Washington neighborhood that overlooks downtown Pittsburgh. In 1954 she moved to South Florida with her husband & children. She worked as a Unit Secretary at Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach. Most of her senior years were spent volunteering and working part time for St. John’s United Methodist and First United Methodist Church of Boynton Beach. Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Carl H. Bergener III & her sister Dorothy Porter. She is survived by her sister Betty Ritz and her sister-in-law Naomi Oliver. Grace is also survived by her six children, Carl E. Bergener (Patti), Gary E. Bergener (Maria), Laurel E. Martin, Mike E. Bergener, Kurt E. Bergener (Sally) & David E. Bergener (Cindy). Grace also has 13 grandchildren – (Carl & Patti) John Bowlds, Julie Kilby, Robby Bergener, Jason Bowlds, Allison Kolaczynski, (Gary & Maria) Jonathan Bergener, (Laurel) Amy Alvarez, RJ Dunson, Andrew Martin, (Mike) Michelle Taylor, (Kurt & Sally) Samantha McDonald, (David & Cindy) Katie & Kyle Bergener. Additionally, Grace is survived by 23 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and family and church friends. Grace spent many of her days visiting church members in the hospital and their homes delivering Teddy Bears and Flowers. Grace loved singing in the church choir, playing in the Handbell choir, and performing in church musical programs. Grace played the piano and loved singing along with the old musicals of the 40’s, 50’s & 60’s. Grace enjoyed it when the whole family got together to play card games, charades and other family games. Three of her sons (Carl, Mike & Kurt) served in the United States Marine Corps. Her only daughter Laurie is a Registered Nurse for over 44 years. Her son Gary has worked in the Auto Industry for over 45 years and David her youngest has worked in the Airline industry for over thirty years.
There will be a Celebration of Grace’s life at First United Methodist Church, 101 North Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 9, 2019. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
