Frederick Dey Schneider, 86, of Manchester, CT and later Boynton Beach,
FL died peacefully at home, with family at his side, after a short illness.
He was born in Manchester, CT in 1938 where he lived for over 50 years.
He was a veteran of the US Army. Fred worked as a mechanic at McCann’s
Texaco for many years before buying the garage and proudly opening
Schneider’s Service Station, which he owned for 5 years. He loved that this
was a popular gathering place in Manchester, where so many memories
were made over hours of conversation and car talk. He finished his career
at Giola Landscaping.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manchester, CT and then
Son Life Lutheran Church in Boynton Beach, FL.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Marion Kerr Schneider, his
infant son Frederick Dey Jr, and his sister, Sylvia Hellstrom. He is survived
by his brother Jonathan Schneider of Arizona, his children and their
spouses, Susan and Gregory Vartanian, David and Michelle Schneider, and
Rick and Kathy Schneider, five grandchildren, Gwendolyn Vartanian
Cheong, Amanda Schneider, Matthew Schneider, Lily Vartanian, and
Abigail Vartanian, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Fred loved his sweet dog Buddy, his church community, and spending time
with so many wonderful friends and family. He was lovingly called “The
Mayor” by his family as everywhere he went he found someone he knew!
He enjoyed everything about cars and loved attending cruise nights.
A service celebrating the lives of Fred and Marion Schneider will be held at
Emanuel Lutheran Church, 60 Church St, Manchester on Monday, May 20th at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lily’s Legion (Venmo@LilysLegion).
Private burial to be held at a later date.
