Captain Fred T. Epson of Boynton Beach passed away on July 10, 2013. He was born May 26, 1924 in Chicago, IL. He is survived by his wife, Joan Johnson Epson and son Ronald, daughter Kathleen, grandchildren - Christopher, Joseph, Shevon, Sean Jarrad and Erin. Extended family - Rick (Kelly), Jeff (Julie), Dennis (Barbara), Andy, Lynne (Gary) and grandchildren - Devin, Jennifer, Rebecca, Jillian, Julianne, Alex, Sarah, Meghan, James, Grant, Amanda and Ashley. A graduate of St. Louis University and the Parks College of Aeronautical Engineering, he ferried aircraft during WWII for the Illinois National Guard then flew professionally for 41 years, 30 of those years with Eastern Airlines. While with Eastern, he shared his vision of a Washington-NY-Boston air shuttle with Capt. Paul Slayden. They then took the idea to Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker and the highly successful Eastern Airlines shuttle was created. Fred's love for aviation was his life's passion. After retiring from Eastern, he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with friends and he will be dearly missed. Memorial Services will be Friday, July 19th at 11:00 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy #1 & NE 15th Ave., Boynton Beach.
