It is with deep sadness the family of Frankie Cooper announces her passing on Friday, 23rd March 2023 after a long and well lived life. She is survived by three of her children Chris (Julian), Mark (Peggy), and Kim, as well as her brother Walter Kelly (Ruth) Lee, grandchildren Kelley, Woody, Georgia, and great grandson Sebastian. Frankie is also survived by her constant and loving companion, Holly the dog. Frankie was predeceased by her beloved husband E. Wesley, daughter Shirley, parents EA & Beatrice Lee, brother Carlos, and sister Peggy Joyce.

Frankie was born and raised on Reed Street in Waycross Georgia and after graduating from the local high school she and her friend Gilda took jobs in Atlanta working as switchboard operators for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company after the end of WWII.

The 1940s post war boom saw Southern Florida becoming the winter holiday destination for many who travelled from northern states to Florida for the kinder weather, white sandy beaches, and warm seas. From the very wealthy to those whose livelihoods depended upon the wealthy, to those who followed the growing season, phone operators were needed to help with the expanding demand. In 1947; Frankie leaped at the opportunity to be a part of those new and exciting times of innovation and technology and moved south to Delray where she stayed in a boarding house located on Federal Highway within walking distance to her new job, the job where she was to meet the love of her life; Wesley who was also employed by Southern Bell as a Line-man after his decommissioning from the U.S. Army; they married on 6th June 1948 in Georgia surrounded by Frankie's family.

Frankie and Wesley continued living in Delray, moving with their family from Southridge Road to Seacrest Blvd in 1963 where the family spent many happy years and Frankie lived with son Chris (Julian) up until her death.

Both Frankie and Wesley were active in their Church, the OES #77, Delray Beach Elks, VFW, American Legion, as well as helping with other local charities and civic organizations.

However, one of the things Frankie will always be remembered for are the Christmas in July parties complete with food, presents, , and Christmas wear in summer! A wonderful cook and gracious hostess, she enjoyed entertaining family and friends, welcoming all to her home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the charity of choice in Frankie’s memory.

Interment - Lee’s Chapel, Alma Georgia.
