In Loving Memory of Frank Ihasz
October 31, 1931 – September 12, 2025
Frank Ihasz, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at the age of 93 in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Born in Papa, Hungary, Frank was the younger of two children. After schooling, he trained to become an Upholsterer, until he was drafted into the Hungarian Army where he became an Intelligence Radio Operator, stationed in the Budapest Citadel on Gellert Hill for 3 years.
In November of 1956, he escaped from Hungary with his wife, family and friends after the Russian Army crushed the Hungarian Revolution. They made their way across Hungary and crossed the border into Austria. After 6 months in Refugee Camps in Austria, England and Ireland, they were welcomed into Canada in May 1957 and started a new free life with $5 in their pockets. They struggled to learn both English and French, while learning a new way of life in Montreal.
Frank continued his trade as an Upholsterer in Canada and when they moved to Florida he successfully owned his own business until the age of 78.
Frank loved all sports, but he always had a special place in his heart for soccer, which he played until his was 50. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and traveled back to his home country many times. He especially enjoyed the numerous Cruises that he took with family and friends. Frank also had a love of music. For decades, he and Magda were a fixture on the dance floors. We will forever remember their graceful turns and happy smiles, as they danced through life together.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Magda of 69 years, his two children, Sue Roberts (Larry Ledbetter) and Robert Ihasz; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Christopher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karoly and Etelka Ihasz and his brother, Jeno Ihasz.
A private celebration of Frank’s life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025.
Frank’s legacy of compassion and courage will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
