age 91 of Boynton Beach, Florida, a retired Priest of the Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Passaic, New Jersey passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at his home. Father Frank was born in New Brunswick, NJ to the late Frank and Mary (Kis) Eles. A graduate of Highland Park High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. A late vocation to the Priesthood, some years after attending Niagara University, he entered the Eparchial Seminary of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Once completing his Priestly studies, he was ordained by Bishop Stephen J. Kocisko on March 21, 1965. Father Frank’s service assignments were at St. Michael Church in Perth Amboy, NJ, Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church in New York City and his home parish of St. Joseph Church in New Brunswick. After retiring to Boynton Beach in November of 1994 he actively assisted Byzantine Catholic Churches in Florida for over 20 years. Father Frank also served for a decade as a Volunteer Literacy Tutor for the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Popovics. Father Frank is survived by his nephews, Alexander (Joanne) Popovics and Thomas (Susan) Popovics; and niece, Alice Popovics (Peter) Clark and three grand nieces, Laura Popovics, Sarah Popovics and Kristin Kealey & families.
Friends will be received at St. Nicholas Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 5715 Lake Ida Road, Delray Beach on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 9:45 AM until 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass for Father Eles will follow and be celebrated at 11:00 AM at the church. Friends will also be received at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. A Graveside Service will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in New Brunswick at 11:00 AM and then Father Frank will be laid to rest next to his parents.
