Faye Welch Sard
a former staffer for the late Congressman William Maillard of California and administrative assistant for the volunteer program at the Cape Cod Hospital, passed away peacefully at her home in Lighthouse Point Florida on December 6th. She was 81.
Born in the Nation's Capitol, Faye grew up there and graduated from modeling school in 1957. She worked for the Teamster's Union and National Guard before working as Representative Maillard's personal secretary for eight years, both on the Hill and in his San Francisco office. She later married and became a homemaker to raise her children. During this time she was fortunate to also travel internationally with her husband, the late Matthew J. Harvey who was appointed to the State Department by President Nixon, as he worked overseas. One of her fondest memories from this time was attending President Nixon's inaugural ball in 1973. She was active and loved the Washington social and political scene of the time.
Faye later moved to Cape Cod, Massachusetts where she finished raising her children and worked for 27 years at the local hospital as an administrant for program scheduling with the volunteer program. Once retired, she continued to pursue her love of international travel and visited several more countries, eventually spending summers on Cape Cod and winters in South Florida. In addition to travel, she loved gardening, physical fitness, and just being outdoors. She ultimately moved to Lighthouse Point fulltime to enjoy the comfort of a milder year-round climate. But of all the places she lived, she was a Washingtonian at heart, and D.C. was her real home.
In Passing, Faye leaves her brother, Bernard Welch, Aunt Betty Parker and cousin Barry Hall, four children, Mark Harvey, Margaret Raunela, John Harvey, and Eric Woodward, as well as several wonderful and loving grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Funeral arrangements are private.
