Faustino “Gus” Sciandra
Sciandra, Faustino, “Gus,” 79, of Greenacres, Florida, passed away on November 7, 2023.
Born February 2, 1944, in Montedoro, Sicily, Gus emigrated to the U.S at the age of 13. He lived in Buffalo, NY and eventually worked at Ford Motor Company for over 30 years as an electrician, later retiring and moving to Florida in 2002.
Gus was an extremely proud and committed father and grandfather, and an active member and volunteer in his church. He was generous in nature as well, participating in multiple mission trips to Central and South America and funding class mission trips for many local youths. He also earned a degree in Christian Counseling from the Full Gospel Tabernacle’s School of the Bible in Buffalo, NY.
With a tremendous passion for life, Gus loved to travel throughout the Caribbean and Europe, often visiting his extended family in his hometown in Sicily and the south of France. A lover of food and wine, he was an excellent cook and made his own wine. He was also an avid dancer, earning him the nickname “The Energizer Bunny” at his daughter’s wedding, and loved karaoke singing and gardening. Most recently, if he wasn’t lifting weights at the gym or walking to stay physically fit, you could probably find him at the pool catching rays.
Gus is survived by his son Peter J. Sciandra, his daughter and son-in-law, Faustina Sciandra and Zach Thompson, his grandchildren Jacob Sciandra and Claire Sciandra, his brother Charles Sciandra, and his sister and brother-in-law Mary and Boniface Porto. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Grace Sciandra, and his brother Salvatore Sciandra.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 18 from 10am-12pm, immediately followed by a funeral service from 12pm-1pm. Both will be held at Trinity Church International, 7255 S. Military Trail, Lake Worth, FL 33463; 561-965-4166.
