EVELYN MERKLE
Evelyn Merkle, age 88, long time resident of Delray Dunes Golf Club in Boynton Beach, Florida passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022.
Evelyn was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on January 13, 1934.
She and her husband, Bill Merkle, migrated to Florida in 1959 from Cleveland, Ohio. It wasn’t until her two children started school that she decided to go back to school to become a Registered Nurse. She started her career at Bethesda Hospital in the early 1960s and quickly became the Head Nurse of the Pediatric Unit. She continued her education to obtain a Master’s Degree in both Nursing and Education and spent over 20 years teaching nursing at Palm Beach Junior College.
She retired from teaching in 1995 and focused her same intensity on improving her golf game with her many friends.
She spent many years involved in many organizations, including the Order of Eastern Star, Zonta, and No One Left Behind School Scholarship Program.
Evelyn and Bill were blessed with many good friends and a full life. They traveled a good part of the world, loved to entertain, play cards, ballroom dance, and play with grandchildren. They were always ready to help anyone who needed it, whether they asked for help or not. Evelyn always had an opinion and she wasn’t shy about sharing it. They had a very beautiful love story from the time they met when she was 16 years old and Bill was 18. They shared 64 years of marriage and their friendship with each other was a great example for their children and grandchildren. We find peace as a family that she is now reunited with her husband in Heaven and without pain.
She is predeceased by her husband, William Robert Merkle. Survived by daughter, Laura Merkle West, her son, Philip Lee Merkle and his wife Teresa, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
