Ellen Manning, was born in the Bronx, NY, on August 23, 1945, to Lorraine and Carl Chandler. She grew up in New York with her brother, Mark, and eventually met the love of her life and future husband, Alexander Manning. In 1986, she had her first and only child, a son, William Manning.

Always an appreciator of fine written works, she earned a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and ultimately a PhD in English/Literature. The early part of her career being spent as a teacher and professor, she later ran cultural theaters, directed a college cultural affairs department, and organized special events. As time went on, she found herself returning to teaching her passion English/Literature. She continued as a college professor, for the remainder of her career, meeting scores of friends and colleagues along the way.
Ellen was always kind, thoughtful, selfless, loving, caring, appreciative, understanding, and willing to make any sacrifice to those she loved. Ellen was the light in many peoples' lives, and brought a smile to anyone she met. Her sweet and genuine personality was something that characterized her and was only exceeded by her generosity, kindness, and love. She always wanted the best for others and was willing to do anything, even at her own expense, to provide that. Ellen leaves behind her legacy of bringing happiness and joy to anyone she met, and being a bright shining light, even on the darkest night, to all of those around her.
