Ellen Regina Houck, 89, of Delray Beach, Florida (formerly of Great Neck, New York) passed away on August 11, 2022.

Born October 20, 1932 in New York City, New York, Ellen lived a long and beautiful life filled with love and accomplishment.

Ellen graduated from the Flushing Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She went on to enjoy a long and distinguished career in nursing for over 44 years, practicing almost all disciplines of nursing. Ellen continued to use her experience for the benefit of others as a volunteer at Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach for another 18 years after her retirement. Married to her beloved husband Jerry in the summer of 1955 after a “blind date” on New Years Eve, they had three Children and four Grandchildren. They were happily married until Jerry’s passing in 1999.
Ellen was a very active and much loved member of the St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church community, involved with many of the church’s programs such as the children’s day camps, the blessing of the animals and the food pantry each month at Holy Redeemer Church. Ellen was an extremely talented quilter and was a member of the Boynton Beach Library Quilters’ Club; she was also an accomplished knitter and practitioner of all other textile arts.

Ellen is lovingly remembered by her devoted children Gennifer and Gail and their spouses Bob and Bennett, her daughter-in-law Lindy, her adoring grandchildren and their spouses; Mallory and Chirs, Daniel and Erin, Noah and Steph, Nina and Yvie, as well as her Great Grandchildren Evelyn and Conor. Ellen is predeceased by her cherished husband the Rev Gerald “Jerry” Houck, her much loved son Gerald (III), her sister Rosemary and her brothers Kenneth and Eddie.

A burial service was held on August 27, 2022 at All Saint’s Church in Great Neck, New York. A celebration of life memorial service will take place at St. Joseph’s Church, Boynton Beach, Florida on September 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM.

Donations to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association
and St. Joseph’s Church Food Pantry are welcome in her memory.
