Douglas Halstead Lewis passed away, at home, in Boynton Beach, FL, on April 2, 2026.

Doug was born December 3, 1944 in Wilkes Barre, PA to Harold and Madeline Halstead Lewis.

He served four years, three months and four days, with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hornet,

doing 3 tours in Viet Nam and one year in Okinawa. He was proud to have served his country.

After college, Doug managed hotels and resorts in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

After moving to Florida in 1996, Doug was always ready to help his neighbors prepare for hurricanes, drive to airports, doctor visits, or give a free golf lesson. He always said, “That’s what neighbors do.” Wherever he went he made lasting friendships.

Doug loved cooking, entertaining, and telling stories with his friends. If you knew Doug for any length of time you would hear some of his stories multiple times. He had a great sense of humor and could make people laugh.

Doug was predeceased by his son, Dan (Christine). He leaves behind his wife, Linda Houck, whom he married in 1967, his son Jim (Kim), and his beloved grandchildren – Sophia, Benjamin, and Zoe.

A graveside ceremony will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery at a later date.
