Douglas (Doug) Gerard Dell, 57, of West Palm Beach, Florida was born on December 3, 1957 in Dubuque, Iowa. He moved with his family to West Palm Beach, FL when he was 5 years old and attended St. Juliana’s Catholic School. He graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in 1975. He received a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from Loyola University, New Orleans in 1980. After college, Doug returned to West Palm where he pursued real estate and insurance through the 80s. He later started his own lawn maintenance company.

Doug lost his battle with cancer on March 10, 2015 with his sisters, Debi and Gina, at his side. He will be buried in Dubuque near his parents, the Honorable John W. and Regina Winders Dell, who passed in 2012 and 2010.

Doug always regretted waiting too long to have children of his own. He shared his passion for basketball with lots of young people and was recognized as a volunteer coach. In recent years, Doug especially enjoyed bowling and arcade games with his nephew, Jacob.

Doug also liked spending time with his friends, particularly Marcie Rand Adler, Bob Mahoney, and Paul Martin. He loved playing cards and Monopoly, basketball, pool, racquetball, and the occasional trip to the casino. His favorite music was soul and R&B with James Brown’s “Papa Had a Brand New Bag” as his signature song!

In keeping with his simple tastes and his wishes, Doug did not want a service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 ( www.hpbc.com ).
