Age 99 of Delray Beach, formerly of Boynton Beach, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020.
Dorian was born December 4, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Carl Grimes Beck and Lydia Pauline Niess Beck. She was born and raised in Cleveland and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio University. Later she attended graduate school at New York University. She arrived with her parents in Delray Beach in 1944 to spend the winter and the family has owned a winter home in South Florida since 1950. Dorian has been a permanent resident of Delray Beach and Boynton Beach since 1969.
Dorian was predeceased by her son, Carl Beck Trauger and her husband of 47 years, Walter Martin Trauger, who was a Retired Army Colonel, College Professor and Administrator, former Boynton Beach Commissioner, Vice Mayor and Mayor.
Dorian’s interests were many. In college she was on the swimming team, the field hockey team, and the rifle team. Later her swimming ability led her to a role in “Billy Rose’s Aquacade” in Cleveland, Ohio. Just like her many interests, Dorian has filled many positions in life such as an analytical chemist, payroll accountant, teacher, model and a store manager and owner.
Dorian had been active in the community during her many years here. She had been a member of the Boynton Beach Chamber of Commerce since 1978 and served on the Boynton Beach Recreation and Parks Board for 17 years. When Boynton Beach sponsored its annual GALA, Dorian served as its Activities Chairman for 17 years. She had been a Board Member and Secretary for the Delray Beach Playhouse for many years. Dorian was a Life Member of the Boynton Woman’s Club and the Boynton Beach Historical Society. She served on the Board of Directors for the DeVos-Blum Family YMCA for 9 years and has held a variety of offices and been President of the Boynton Beach/Lantana Rotary Club.
A Cryptside Service will be held Friday, October 2, 2020 at 10 AM at the Mausoleum Chapel at Boynton Beach Memorial Park, 1611 South Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boynton Woman’s Club, P.O. Box 1135, Boynton Beach, FL 33425 or Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, 700 S. Dixie Highway, Suite 200, West Palm Beach, FL 33401 in Dorian’s memory.
