DENNIS J. MERTES Age 70 On June 28th, unexpectedly, Dennis left this life on earth to start a new life with his friends and family in heaven. His laughter and smile will be greatly missed by all the people whose lives he touched throughout his life. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Dennis would tell you he was a class act. They would say he was a very loving, caring and generous person to all the people in his life. A parent could not ask for a more dedicated and loving son. Growing up he was heavily involved in the Drum Corps as a member of the Marian Cadets, Satan?s Angels and Pittsburgh Rockets Drum Corps where he won numerous awards as Drum Major and later on serving as a judge at various Drum Corp shows. He was a graduate of Ohio University where he served as Drum Major for four years. After college he worked for U.S. Steel Corp. as a Resident Sales Manager from 1964 ? 1997. While living in Ohio he was a member of Shady Hollow Country Club for 21 years. He also served as Chairman of the half time show for the Hall of Fame Football Game. He later moved to Lake Worth, FL in 2004 where he served as President of Cedarbrook Homeowners Assoc. at Lacuna Golf and Country Club until 2008. Presently he was serving as Vice President of Cedarbrook. Dennis loved attending Drum Corp Shows and was an avid golfer. He was predeceased by his father, Jack Mertes and his sister, Darlene Priester. He is survived by his mother, Betty Mertes and loving companion, Sharon Hill. Friends will be received from 5-7 PM on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Ave., Boynton Beach. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Matthew?s Catholic Church, 6090 Hypoluxo Road, Lake Worth. Entombment will follow at our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach.
