Delia Champine MacArthur, 97 years of age, began her eternal life on October 5, 2016.
Delia was the fifth of seven children born to William and Eleanor Champine in Detroit, Michigan on October 24, 1918. She was a graduate of St. David’s High School, Detroit, in 1936.
A teacher by profession, she was extremely proud of her accomplishments. Her experience in the classroom spanned 37 years. It included high school math instruction in Sterling, MI and elementary science instruction in Detroit.
Delia earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Wayne State University, and published articles in Science and Children and a Master’s thesis titled, “Teaching Elementary Science to Children with Limited Background”.
After retiring in 1979, she became a resident of Boynton Beach, FL where she had a reputation as an animal lover, especially dogs, and person of many talents. She loved word games and topping the list was Scrabble. Her artistic ability was used to create works in stained glass, punch-work design, macramé furniture, and crochet. These beautiful and well made creations were passed on as gifts to friends, relatives, and charities. They are in possession of people throughout the United States and Europe.
Delia had a strong personality and a big heart, which explains her longevity. The warmth within her was left behind: crocheted into every afghan her friends and family received.
Preceded in death by her husband, Stanley James MacArthur, she leaves behind her daughter, Elaine MacArthur Mulcrone of Charlotte, NC, her sons, Daniel James MacArthur and Christopher Paul MacArthur of the Detroit area, her grandchildren, Thomas MacArthur, Daniel Mulcrone, Colleen Mulcrone and her great grandchildren, Brenna MacArthur and Dax Perry Mulcrone.
The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 643 St. Mark Place, Boynton Beach, Florida.
Delia will be interned with her husband in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the charity of your choice.
