Castellano, Christine Ann Resident of Miami, Florida Died JFK Medical Center, Atlantis, Florida - January 10, 2013 Christine (Christie) was born September 17, 1952. She was the daughter of Col. Anthony (Ace) Castellano (who predeceased her in 2004) and Helen Castellano. She is survived by her mother, Helen, her extended family of DeJuan, Philip, Ian and Christine Cork and many cousins around the country. Christie grew up in Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, New York. With her father serving as Commandant and Superintendent of New York Military Academy (NYMA), she was a favorite of many of the alumni of NYMA. She graduated from Cornwall Central High School in 1970 and later from the University of Miami in 1977, where amongst her many achievements she served as Chapter President of the Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority and as a member of the Pan-Hellenic Council, forming many life-long friendships. Following her graduation from Barry University in 1980 with a Master's of Social Work, Christie had a distinguished career in Miami as an advocate for children and families with serious emotional problems at Metro-Dade County Youth & Family Development, the Bertha Abess Children's Center and since 1992 for Miami Dade County Public Schools at Ruth Owens Kruse Educational Center, as Department Head for Student Services. Additionally, Christie was an adjunct professor at both Barry University and Florida International University where she shared her expertise and experience with countless students over the past 15+ years. Christie was also involved with many professional associations including the National Association of Social Workers, holding various offices on a state and local level and received recognition in 2002 as the Miami-Dade County Public School Social Worker of the Year. It is impossible to count the number of children, adolescents, families, teachers, fellow social workers, and other professionals she has impacted in her life. All who knew and loved her will remember Christie for her warmth, compassion, and generosity. A Funeral Mass and celebration of her life will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1000 Lantana Road, Lantana, Florida on Monday January 21at 12 noon.
