Carol H. Gaughan, 80, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died peacefully surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her husband, John P. Gaughan, Jr.
Born and raised in Scranton, PA, Carol was the daughter of the late Howard and Stasia (Dubisky) Hatcher. From Scranton, Carol relocated to Johnson City, NY, where she lived for 38 years. From there, she moved to Boynton Beach, FL, where she currently resided. After graduating from Cathedral High School in Scranton, she was employed by Bell Telephone Company and Verizon, as a customer service representative, from which she retired. Carol will continue to be present in our lives. Those left to carry on her memory are her children, Catherine and Jason Haselkorn of Juno Beach FL, Kelly and Jeff Nelson of Newburgh, NY, and John and Heather Gaughan of Johnson City, NY. Carol also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Rachel and Sydney Haselkorn, Jeffrey Nelson, and Delaney, Keegan and Connor Gaughan. Carol enjoyed many days at the community pool and developed numerous deep friendships there. She spent many hours as a volunteer for her neighborhood association. Above all, Carol focused on her children and grandchildren. Distance did not keep her from being a cheerleader for all their accomplishments. She consistently put family before herself. Carol loved music and enjoyed socializing. She was a fabulous cook and avid reader. Carol loved to travel in her younger years and had been to many special places. She had a true love for animals, especially her cats. Carol will be deeply missed.
