Buddy Mock, 86, long time resident of Broward County, passed away unexpectedly on September 24. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 on Saturday, October 1 at Scobbe Combs Bowden Funeral Home in Boynton Beach. A graveside service will be held 11:00 on Monday, October 3 at South Florida National Cemetery.
Buddy was born on August 27, 1930, and raised in Winfield Kansas. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and while stationed in Florida, he met and married Faye Johnson. Buddy earned a degree in electrical engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1956. After graduation he worked on missile guidance systems at Harris Corporation in Melbourne Florida. In 1960, the family moved to Broward County, residing in Fort Lauderdale and Plantation, where he was one of the original founders of Systems Engineering Laboratories. Buddy was lead engineer on the first computer ever built in the state of Florida. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and “building things”.
He was a kind and honorable man with a strong faith who practiced his Christianity in the way he lived his life, loved his family and treated others. Buddy is survived by his wife of 64-years, Faye Mock, sons and wives Richard & Bobbie Mock (Boynton Beach), Steve & Vera Mock (Clearwater) and Alan & Susan Mock (Frisco, TX) grandchildren; Cheryl Mock, Chris Mock, Kristin Marks, Ryan Mock, Justin Mock, Cory Mock and Melissa Mock and seven great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Children’s Impact Network ( www.childrensimpactnetwork.org ).
