BERNARD “Bernie” CORYER
age 99, formerly of Leisureville, Boynton Beach, Florida
passed away at the Sonata Assisted Living Facility in Boynton Beach on October 6, 2019.
Bernie was born on February 12, 1920 in Cadyville, New York to the late Jerry and Lillian (Rabideau) Coryer and was a graduate of Our Lady of Victory Academy.
He served in the U.S. Army 7th Armored Division during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart with 3 stars and the Bronze Medal for Valor. He was employed with the Plattsburgh Police Department for 26 years retiring in 1974 as the Chief.
Bernie was a member of Our Lady of Victory Holy Name Society, Plattsburgh Elks Club,
New York State Police Chiefs Association, International Police Chiefs Association and the VFW.
He was predeceased by: wife Catherine Tyrell Coryer and wife Helen Herd Coryer; grandson Matthew David Coryer; Brother, Clifford Coryer and sisters, Ruth Laforest, Leona Primard, and Marion Coryer.
Bernie is survived by: son, Bernard J. Coryer (Connie) of Davenport, Florida; daughter, Mildred Coryer-Dhu (Robert) of Great Mills, Maryland; sister, Wanda Brownley (Jack) of Dover, New Hampshire and his step-children: Kathy Atteo of Boynton Beach, Florida; Jackie Dunst of Belvedere, New Jersey and Tommy Herd of Sparta, New Jersey; one granddaughter, 2 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and 3 step grandchildren.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach. The Committal Service will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida.
