ARLENE JOHNSON (nee:Wilmoth)
90 of Boynton Beach passed away after a brief illness in Delray Beach on October 26, 2022.

Born in Sutton, West Virginia on June 1st, 1932, Arlene was a long time Florida resident dating back to the 1950’s. Arlene was the daughter of a coal miner and was raised in both West Virginia and Ohio. She met Robert (Bob) Johnson while attending Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio. They married in 1953, honeymooned in New Smyrna Beach, Florida and settled in Warren, Ohio. After just a few months, they left for Canada to manage the camp that Bob had built in Ontario. They traveled to the camp that was 38 miles from the nearest road with only the $100 that Bob had borrowed. She was to be the cook for the guests at the camp, but had to borrow a cookbook from her own mother in law!. Arlene was very resourceful and a quick learner. At one point, there was no food to feed the guests and she and a friend walked four miles to buy potatoes and shot grouse along the way. This was to be the night’s dinner for the guests! After spending a frigid winter in Canada, she said to Bob,” If I am spending my summers in the wilderness in the middle of nowhere, then I want to spend the rest of the year at the beach”. So, they then became part time residents of Briny Breezes. During the summers they spent in Canada, they endured many trials and tribulations (like when Arlene shot the bear) and made many friends and memories. While living in Florida, Arlene became a member of the Boynton Beach Women’s Club, played tennis regularly, joined the Jubileers, stayed active in the Ocean Club, and more recently joined bridge and bunco groups. She juggled her family and social life while also working part time for Drs. Shoaf and Carter in Delray Beach. Arlene and Bob continued to live between Canada and Boynton Beach for many years and after selling the camp, built their own cabin. Arlene still made summer trips to their cabin and was able to visit just a few months ago.

Arlene is survived by her sons, Jeff (Rusti Lynn) of Lake Worth, Scott (Kristi) of Littleton, Colorado; her grandchildren, Ryan, Ashlee (Craig), Baylee, Samantha, Megan, Kylee and Laci; her great grandchildren, Justin, Annabelle, Caleb, Aubree and Madelyn; her siblings, Jared Wilmoth and Linda Behner.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Bob, after 57years of marriage. Also predeceased by her parents Oliver and Floda, her brothers Larry and Ronnie and granddaughter Hallee.

The Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Journey Church (Boynton Campus), 715 S. Federal Hwy, Boynton Beach, Florida 33435 at 11 AM.
