Andrew J. "AJ" Place, Jr.

Andrew Joseph Place, Jr., "AJ", formerly of Hopewell Junction, NY, died April 7, 2025 in Boynton Beach, FL at the age of 77. Born May 19, 1947, he was the son of Andrew J. Place and Virginia (Muzyka) Place.

Beginning his education in a one room schoolhouse in Mabbettsville, NY, he graduated from Millbrook Central School in 1964. He then attended Dutchess Community College, where he played in the Brass Ensemble under the direction of Roger Thorpe. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he trained as a photographer and photo finisher. He served on the USS Forrestal for multiple Mediterranean maneuvers. Upon discharge from the service, he continued his photography skills at Arax Studios, followed by a career with IBM.

In 1976, he married the love of his life, Louise Sebeth, who predeceased him in 1994.

Andrew will be remembered for his wit, as well as his knowledge of multiple interests, especially trains.

He is survived by his daughter, Mona (Juan) Portalatin, and granddaughter, Haley Portalatin, of Boynton Beach, FL, his brother, William Place of Dover Plains, NY, his sister, Frances (Jesse) Sutherland of Millbrook, NY, his niece, Sara (Brian) Krauss of Ashburnham, MA, and his nephew, John (Christina) Place of Amherst, NY.

Arrangements are under the direction of the SCOBEE-COMBS-BOWDEN FUNERAL HOME in Boynton Beach, FL. A graveside service was held at the Verbank Cemetery, Verbank, NY.
