Alice M. Lees
Alice M. Lees, 93 of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Fremont, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019 at Abbey Delray in Delray Beach.
Alice married the love of her life, Jim Lees, in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1945. She was a devoted wife and mother as she raised her four children. During that period, she was deeply involved in Girl Scouts, church and other volunteer activities.
Alice worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Bob Hawks Photography in Tulsa. Later, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Tulsa and became a Certified Public Accountant. She worked as a CPA at Williams Company in Tulsa, and in her own practice. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Tulsa, OK, and later St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ohio, where her son was pastor. She and her husband were active and beloved residents at Inverness Village retirement community in Tulsa from 2004 - 2011.
Alice enjoyed RV-camping, round dancing, walking and other forms of exercise, family and church activities, cooking, sewing, gardening and other activities. Both she and her husband were pilots, and they also traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and in many countries around the world. Alice was incredibly well organized, meticulous, knowledgeable, independent, and thrifty. She had a strong work ethic, high standards, and a good sense of humor, and was a wonderful friend.
Alice is survived by her children, Nancy (David Merriman) Lees, Huntsville, AL; Bob (Charlotte) Lees, Delray Beach, FL; Peggy (Robert) Cooley, Moreland Hills, OH; Rev. Joe (Katy Ross) Lees, St. Paul, MN; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of seventy years, James B. Lees, Jr, and by her parents Marie and Edward Martin, and her brother, Charles Dickerson of California.
A Memorial Service will be held on November 9, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Boynton Beach, FL with internment with her husband at the church’s columbarium. Visitation with the family will be after the service at the church. Memorials can be made to St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 3300 Seacrest Blvd, Boynton Beach, FL 33435.
