It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Joyce Sahlberg Deyoe, 86, of Boynton Beach, Florida. Alice was born on June 6, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, and died on January 14, 2021 in her home.
Alice graduated from Taft High School in Chicago, Illinois and attended Northwestern University. While working at Popular Mechanics Magazine she met her husband, Alan M. Deyoe, Jr., and they were married for 65 years. They moved to Pinewood Lake in Trumbull, CT where she worked as a court reporter for the State of Connecticut. During her time in Connecticut, she volunteered as a Caring Clown at Stamford Hospital where she found her joy in making people smile and laugh.
After retiring to Florida, she continued volunteering as a caring clown at Bethesda Memorial Hospital, and was known as Henrietta Hiccup. When she wasn’t making people laugh, Alice enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bridge and cooking wonderful meals. She was the chairperson for Show Tell in addition to being the Recording Secretary for the Bethesda hospital auxiliary. She also volunteered as an usher at the box office for Lake Worth Playhouse, Delray Playhouse and at the Palm Beach Community College Duncan Theater.
Alice was predeceased by her mother, Lea Sahlberg, her father, Nils Sahlberg and her sister, Ethel Jacobson.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Alan M. Deyoe, Jr. and her three children; Dr. Lane (Jenifer) Deyoe, Leanne (Todd) Erickson, and Lora (Scott Hanlon) Deyoe, and 11 grand-children, Caroline Deyoe, Christian Deyoe, Catherine Deyoe, Calleigh Deyoe, Claire Deyoe, Shane McFarland, Alyssa (Ki) Braxton, Tyler (Chelsea) Kennedy, Kristin Kennedy, Cooper Kennedy and Carter Kennedy, and two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Henry Braxton.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home located at 599 NE 15th Ave, Boynton Beach, FL from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and a memorial will be held at First United Methodist Church, 101 N. Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach, FL on Friday, January 29, 2021 at noon with a burial immediately following at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL. (Lane #1)
