Schreiber, Theodore, “Ted”, 84, passed away at his home in Boynton Beach, FL on September 8, 2022.
Born July 11, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, Ted graduated from James Madison High School and St. John’s University.
In 1959 Ted signed his first professional contract with the Boston Red Sox. He was selected by the New York Mets in 1962, and had his professional debut with the team on April 14 1963. Ted retired from Baseball in 1965. Upon leaving baseball, Ted became a full-time teacher, teaching Math and Gym at Charles Dewey Junior High School, in one of Brooklyn’s toughest neighborhoods, Sunset Park. There he remained for 27 years.
Ted will be remembered for his love of sports, his passion for teaching, his kindness, and for his ability to elicit a smile from anyone. Whether he was speaking to a complete stranger or an old time friend he created joy through one of his many jokes.
Ted was married 3 times. From his first Marriage he had 3 kids, Louise, William and Neil. He remarried in 1968 with his second wife, Lilia “Lee” Monsalvo. With Lee he fathered another son named Theodore. Ted and Lee raised the 4 kids in Staten Island, where they lived for nearly 30 years. Lee passed away in 1997. Ted then remarried in 1998 with Dazier “Daisy” Schreiber, who remained by his side until his last day.
Ted is survived by his wife, Daisy of 24 years, his children; Neil, Bill and Teddy, his stepsons Alejandro and Eduardo, and his 10 grandchildren. Ted was predeceased by his daughter Louise.
A funeral service in memory of Ted will be held on Wednesday, September 14 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, Florida. Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery at Royal Palm Beach Florida.
