Roguelio "Roy" Mercado

June 27, 1953 - February 8, 2021

ROY MERCADO passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 08, 2021. He joins his beautiful wife, Teresa, and daughter, Teresita, in heaven while forever remaining in the hearts and minds of his loved ones. Honoring his memory are his daughter Leah Mercado, sons: Ernie Cantu and Benjamin Topping, grandchildren: Ashley Cantu and Lucas Topping. Retired truck driver, Roy enjoyed tending to his garden daily in sandals and a shirt that read:“The Gardenfather”. He was most proud of his roses, giant sunflowers, Gardenia; green onions and peppers. His affinity for old muscle cars and trucks often led to his checking for frames with an “they don’t make them like they used to” attitude. But it was his caring heart, humor, and love for storytelling that he is best remembered. His stories were not stories - they were memories and he enjoyed the telling and retelling of each. Never a man of few words, he was well known for following his digressions with, “Long story short...” and “I have the floor.”He understood early in life the value of hard work and family. It is through those values that he came to marry the love of his life and raise a family in the home he helped build: a driveway that still bears their initials and the rooms his children slept in. It is the home where he watched The Avengers saga and impersonated Thor with his family. And it is where he would cherish his remaining days with his youngest grandchild playing with, swinging, reading and singing to. Laughing: “He has my curls.” We lost our favorite avenger: confidante, avid storyteller, loving grandfather; father, brother, uncle and; to many, Santa. Long story short, we love you 3000.
