Leslie Roger Abel, Sr., DDS, passed away at age 82 the 2nd of May, 2018, peacefully surrounded by family and friends after a brief illness. A viewing will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, May 6th, 2018, at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach, Florida. A celebration of his life will be held 7:30 pm Sunday evening at Trinity Temple, 2030 Lark Rd, Palm Springs, Fl. The Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 9:15 am on Monday, May 7, 2018 at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida.
Dr. Abel was born on January 29, 1936, in Rochester, New York to Dr. Samuel and Mary Abel. Dr. Abel attended Sewanee University in Sewanee, Tennessee and obtained his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee. His career spanned many years serving in the United States Army, private practice and the Veterans Administration. Dr. Abel was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve after achieving the rank of Colonel, and retired from a successful career in the Veterans Administration. He and his wife, Beverly, moved to Florida in 1994 where they focused on their passion for mission work with numerous local and international ministries and churches. Dr. Abel touched many lives throughout his life and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by Beverly, his wife of 58 years, sons Leslie Roger Abel and wife Tammy, Stephen Gregory Abel and wife Denise, sister, Trudy Hester and husband Frank, granddaughter Samantha Abel, nieces and nephews, and Godson, Andrew “Chief” Whigham.
Known as Uncle and Papi to many, Roger and Beverly have ministered in more than 40 countries with too many friends to list, leaving a legacy of love of Jesus and life.
