JOHN JOSEPH WURSTER, SR.
Age 75 of Ocean Ridge, FL passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011.
John was born in Louisville, KY on March 26, 1936 to the late John Marshall Wurster and Agnes Julia Heyens Wurster. He was married to Josephine (Adams) Wurster for 55 years.
After school from the 7th to 12th grade, John worked for Korfhage Florist in Louisville, KY. At the age of 17, John earned his wings as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol and from 1955 - 1958 was a machinist for Schmutz's Manufacturing in Louisville. In 1958, he began his career mixing KFC's secret Herbs and Spices for Colonel Sanders, opening and managing the first KFC in Louisville and later becoming the Air Pilot for KFC of Florida. John was the President and Co-Owner of KFC of the Palm Beaches from the early 1960's until his passing.
He loved boating with the Sea Bird Yacht Club and served as a Past Commander. In 1981, Kentucky Governor John Y. Brown appointed him the honorable title of Kentucky Colonel. John was also the Past Treasurer for The Kentucky Colonels Society of the Palm Beaches and a member of the Model A Restorers Club.
He was admired, respected, and beloved by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Josephine, the love of his life for 55 years who survives him, affectionately calls John "My Johnnie Fly Boy". Josephine is the granddaughter of Colonel Harland D. Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken. John's brother, Wayne M. Wurster preceded him in death.
He is also survived by two siblings, AC Morris (Bob) and David A. Wurster (Joanie); his four children, John Joseph Wurster, Jr., Cynthia Josephine Wurster, Harland James Wurster (Michelle) and Christopher Francis Wurster; four grandchildren, Melissa Josephine Glosmanova, Michael Johann Jordan, Ashley Kezlah Wurster and Kyle Joseph Wurster; as well as numerous cherished friends and relatives all over the country.
A Celebration of John's Life will be held Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 2:30 PM at the Trinity Center at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 345 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County or St. Jude Children's Hospital in John's memory.
