Harold D. Kilpatrick Sr.

July 16, 1939 - February 3, 2022

HAROLD DEAN KILPATRICK, SR. Boynton Beach, Florida July 16, 1939 – February 3, 2022 Harold Kilpatrick, Sr. died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 3rd. He was born in Liberty, North Carolina to William Fred and Lilly Talitha Kilpatrick, and raised in the small town of Turtletown, Tennessee. He attended Berry College and met Mary Golden, who became his beloved wife of 63-years. Shortly after their marriage in 1959, while living in Atlanta, Harold was diagnosed with cancer, which doctors were eventually able to surgically remove. Seeking a change of environment, he and Mary, with their new born son, Harold D., Jr., moved to Delray Beach, Florida where his older brother Dan was living and teaching. Harold got a job installing irrigation systems for Trieste Construction, but later started his own company, Kilpatrick Lawn Sprinklers. In the late 1960’s, he bought Boynton Pump & Supply, where he bought his materials, and grew it into one of the leading irrigation distribution companies in the country. Under his leadership, the company grew to several store locations in South Florida, and pioneered the use of computer-controlled irrigation systems for golf courses. He expanded the company in the mid-1990’s by becoming the Jacobsen Turf Equipment distributor for South Florida, and again in 1998, with the acquisition of a company that extended the reach of the company into the Caribbean and Central America. Although very successful in business, Harold never lost his common touch, sense of humor and kind heart. He helped many, many people quietly with counsel, mentoring, or resources when they were in need. He established the Kilpatrick Family Fund to support many outreach programs in our community. He served as an Elder in his church, Grace Fellowship, and helped to transition it to The Journey Church. He served on the Berry College Board of Trustees and received the Entrepreneurial Award from the College. He was instrumental in Berry College starting a Lacrosse and Football program. He and Mary donated funds to establish Kilpatrick Commons at Berry College, which was dedicated in May 2010, as well as funds to establish the Kilpatrick Family Prayer Room of Bethesda Hospital. He struggled with Parkinson’s Disease later in life, but handled it with grace and courage. Harold will be remembered by his loving wife, Mary of Boynton Beach; son Harold Kilpatrick, Jr. of McDonough, Georgia; son Tim Kilpatrick and his wife, Caren, of Delray Beach; son Jon Kilpatrick and his wife, Jennifer, of Boynton Beach. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and spouses, and two great-granddaughters, all of whom he loved deeply. A funeral service for Harold will be held on Saturday, February 12th at 11:00am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, Florida, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. He will be entombed at Palm Beach Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children Research Hospital or The Bethesda Hospital Foundation in Harold's memory.
