Gertrude “Trudi” Doty joined her husband of 60 years, Jack, in heaven on October 10, 2024. Trudi leaves behind a legacy of a loving family: 5 children: John (Sara), Michael (Jan), Kathleen (Scott), Maureen and Karen (Scott); 10 grandchildren: Sabrina and Megan; David and Amber; Dylan, Emily and Connor; John; Benjamin and Jack, and; 5 great-grandchildren: Aistan and Avaley; Georgia and Sadie; Carter and; brother: Dick Bush (Diane) Trudi was born April 25th, 1940 in Washington D.C., to Dick and Lurline Bush. Trudi’s family moved to Florida in 1954 when she was 14 years old. She attended Palm Beach High School where she participated in the Marching Band as a Clarinet player and achieved high academic honors as a student. She continued her education at Palm Beach Junior College, where she met her husband, Jack Doty. Her first job was at Pratt & Whitney, which was short lived when she and Jack quickly started their large Catholic family. Beginning her married life in Jupiter, Florida, Trudi and Jack continued South to live in Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and finally settled in Boca Raton. Trudi managed the family home and took on the task of running Harbor House Hotel in Delray Beach, achieving a dream to own and run their own business. They also made the decision to move the family aboard a boat across the road from the Hotel, which was the beginning of their unique boating lifestyle. She later continued her ambitions to achieve her real estate license and even eventually went back to college to attain her BA Mathematics Degree at FAU at the age of 49. Trudi and Jack lived for 40 years in their waterfront home in Boca Raton. They travelled extensively on their series of motor yachts and had wonderful memories of their travels and adventures with family, neighbors and friends from the Delray Beach Yacht Club. Days at their home were filled with parties and family gatherings. Trudi always lovingly provided an amazing meal, which could have included leftovers! She enjoyed caring for her grandkids (and always had their favorite snacks available!), tending her garden, sewing from clothes to upholstery and reading avidly. She also loved music, cooking, walking and spending time with their many friends. Loved by everyone for her grace, kindness, loyalty and positivity, Trudi was a very special person. One of her favorite phrases was, “I have no complaints” and she said this through her final days. She did not like negativity or complaining and wanted to maintain her independence in daily living. She wanted to do it herself, showing her strength and resilience to the very last day. One of her proudest moments was getting up the courage to cliff jump into a blue hole, while on a boating trip in the Bahamas with her grandchildren. She leaves behind many, many dear friends, that admired her spirit, kindness and genuineness. She was truly loved by all who knew her. Trudi will be laid to rest beside her husband at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida on January 3rd, 2025 at 11:00am (Lane #3). There will be a celebration of her life with friends and family immediately following, with the location to be determined. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but rather a donation to Hospice by the Sea be made in her memory, if so desired. The family is so grateful to the staff at Allegro, Parkland that lovingly cared for her through her final years. Her children also want to thank all of the friends that cherished and loved her throughout her life. There is another angel in heaven!
